‘The Materials Farm’ is an initiative of Materfad that gives value to the development of materials through resources and non-conventional raw materials. The cycle of activities, framework of which is the FADfest’17, includes a series of conferences, an experimental workshop and an exhibition.
The Materials Farm Inspirational Talks
Disseny Hub Barcelona Auditorium. June 29th, 5 p.m.
A session of conferences and round table with the aim of presenting the individual experients of international experts (designers, artists, engineers). From the development of materials through living organisms like fungus and bacteria, surplus and residues derived from human activities to the using and modification of natural processes, these initiatives open new more responsible and sustainable ways of consuming. The debate will have the presence of the experts Laia Mogas-Soldevila, Diana Scherer, Sanne Visser, Camilo Alava, Saúl Baeza and Pol Merino.
The Materials Farm City Workshop
Plaça Reial. July 1st, 6 p.m.
The Materials Farm City Workshop is a city workshop in which designers, researchers and artisans will develop souvenirs through residues made by tourism. The goal: to reflect on the material and energetic “trail” resulting from human activity. Tourists and neighbours will be invited to bring the remains they generate, like hair, papers or coffee grounds, and to exchange them for souvenirs that will be made with the remains.

Exhibition that will gather the results of the cycle. On the one hand, the participating lecturers in the conference “The Materials Farm Inspirational Talks” will contribute with some of their projects. On the other hand, the results of the research project made by the Materfad and ELISAVA will be exhibited. Starting July 18th, the results of the workshop The Materials Farm City Workshop will be added.
